IND vs ENG Tests: How India Can Move To Top Of World Test Championship Points Table

In the ongoing World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle, India, so far, has participated in 6 Tests, securing victory in 3 and drawing 1. As a result, India's current winning percentage stands at 52.77.

India rank in WTC Points Table: The third Test match of the IND vs ENG Test series is scheduled to begin in Rajkot from February 15th (Thursday) onwards. As the ongoing IND vs ENG Test Series stands tied at 1-1, the hosts India are determined to gain a pivotal lead in the series. The outcome of the IND vs ENG 3rd Test holds significance not only for the ongoing Test series but also for the World Test Championship (WTC) Points Table, amplifying the importance surrounding the fixture.

As per ICC's format for World Test Championship 2023-2025, top two teams will compete in the title match, motivating all teams to strive for the top positions. Presently, New Zealand holds the number one spot, followed by Australia at second place.

Rohit Sharma-led India currently occupies the third position in World Test Championship 2023-2025 cycle. The upcoming IND vs ENG Rajkot Test match presents hosts India with an opportunity to better their position in the WTC standings and enhance their chances of reaching the coveted title match.

In the ongoing World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle, India, so far, has participated in 6 Tests, securing victory in 3 and drawing 1. As a result, India's current winning percentage stands at 52.77.

If India defeats England in IND vs ENG 3rd Test, their winning percentage will notably increase, elevating them to the second position in WTC Points Table with a 55% win percentage, surpassing Australia (number 2 at present). However, India will still trail behind New Zealand in the rankings. Alternatively, even if IND vs ENG 3rd Test match ends in a draw, India can still surpass Australia in the rankings.

How India can move to number one position in ICC World Test Championship Points Table

To surpass New Zealand and reach the number one rank in World Test Championship standings, India will need to secure a higher winning percentage. Currently, New Zealand holds the top spot. For India to surpass Kiwis, they would ideally need to win two more Test matches against England, thereby increasing their winning percentage significantly.

New Zealand's ongoing Test series against South Africa also presents an opportunity for India. If New Zealand, 1-0 up in two-match Test series, loses their upcoming second Test vs SA, and India wins IND vs ENG 3rd Test in Rajkot, Rohit Sharma-led side could potentially move to the top spot in the World Test Championship standings.
