Delhi Capitals (DC) clinched a 25-run victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the seventh match of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 on February 29 (Thursday), at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. After the stunning victory, DC surpassed RCB in the points table of the WPL 2024.
The Capitals showcased a remarkable batting performance, amassing the highest team total of the season by reaching 194/5 in the first innings. Opener Shafali Verma scored a brisk half-century at the beginning, while Alice Capsey contributed with a sturdy 46 runs.
In the final five overs, the Delhi Capitals' batters unleashed a barrage, scoring 70 runs, highlighted by impressive cameos from Marizanne Kapp (32 off 16) and Jess Jonassen (36* off 16).
In reply, RCB skipper Smriti Mandhana stood out as the lone warrior, contributing 74 runs, but the Royal Challengers struggled to build partnerships, finishing at 169-9. Although Sophie Devine (23) and Sabbhineni Meghana (36) had promising starts, they couldn't convert them into substantial contributions.
This outstanding victory has propelled DC to the top position on the WPL 2024 points table.
