WATCH: Shakib Al Hasan Charges At Umpire Over Wide Ball Decision During BPL 2023 Match

This is not the first time that Shakib has lost his cool on the cricket pitch

During a Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match between Fortune Barishal and Sylhet Strikers, star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was involved in a heated exchange of words with the on-field umpire. Shakib, who recently captained the national team in the Test match against India, was visibly angry after the square leg umpire did not signal wide despite the ball going over his head.

The 35-year-old lost his composure in the middle and was caught charging at the umpire in a video clip which has now gone viral on the internet. The incident happened in the 16th over of Barishal's innings when the left-handed star was batting on 39 and the team had put on 144 runs. Although the umpire counted it as a legal ball, he did signal that it was the first bouncer of the over.

Have a look at the video here:

This is not the first time that Shakib has lost his cool on the cricket pitch. In fact, on a previous occasion, in the Dhaka Premier League, Shakib kicked the stumps over his disagreement with the umpire's decision. However, he later apologised for his behaviour.

Shakib cricticises Bangladesh Cricket Board for their failure to market BPL

Earlier this week, the all-rounder had cricticised the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for failing to market the Bangladesh Premier League. He even cited the example of Bollywood movie Nayak to explain how many things can be done in a day.

"You have seen the movie Nayak right? If you want to do something, you can do it in one day. I would do the players' draft and auction (on time) and hold the BPL during a free time. We will have all the modern technologies. There will be quality broadcast and home and away venues." Shakib was quoted in a PTI report.

"I don't know about the standard of BPL. It is difficult to say whether we could not or didn't want (to make it successful)," he added.
