Virat Kohli's Stellar Record In Ranji Trophy Over The Years

Speculations are now rife that former India skipper Virat Kohli may return to play for his domestic team, Delhi, in the Ranji Trophy after a long break.

The Indian cricket team recently suffered a humiliating 3-1 defeat in the five-Test Border-Gavaskar series in Australia, with the batters failing to deliver consistently.

Following this disappointing performance, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recommended that players participate in domestic cricket to regain form.

Speculations are now rife that former India skipper Virat Kohli may return to play for his domestic team, Delhi, in the Ranji Trophy after a long break. While there's no official confirmation yet, here's a closer look at Kohli's Ranji Trophy record.

Virat Kohli's early rise to the Indian team at the age of 20 meant limited opportunities in domestic cricket. Despite this, his performances in the Ranji Trophy were instrumental in catching the selectors' attention and securing his spot in the Indian cricket team.

Virat Kohli's Ranji Trophy Record

Debuting for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy in 2006, Virat Kohli last played in the tournament in 2012. Across 23 matches, he scored 1,574 runs at an average of 50.77, including five centuries. His standout season came in 2009/10, where he scored 374 runs in three matches. This strong showing played a major role in earning his Test debut for India in 2011.

Currently, Virat Kohli is dealing with a rough patch, having managed just 190 runs in five Tests during the Australia series.

His repeated dismissals to deliveries outside the off-stump have highlighted a need for technical adjustments. Returning to the Ranji Trophy could provide him with a valuable platform to address these challenges, refine his technique, and rebuild confidence.

With his fitness and experience, Virat Kohli still has the potential to be a key player for India in red-ball format for at least two more years. A strong domestic season could not only signal his return to form.
