Travis Head And Glenn Maxwell Face Online Abuse After Australia Thrash India In World Cup 2023 Final

Travis Head's fantastic performance with the bat propelled Australia to a six-wicket victory over India, securing their sixth ODI World Cup title.

Travis Head's match-winning century at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 20 final was a standout moment in cricket history. His performance propelled Australia to a six-wicket victory over India, securing their sixth ODI World Cup title.

Following the match, some Indian fans directed offensive comments towards Head on his Instagram post, abusing also included Head's wife and one-year-old daughter. Similar abuse was directed at Glenn Maxwell and his family after Australia's win, prompting Maxwell's wife, Vini Raman, to express disappointment on Instagram. Raman highlighted the ability to support one's birth country alongside the team her husband represents and urged a focus on more pressing global issues.

Vini Raman Responds To Online Hatred Coming Her Way

Vini Raman took to Instagram as she wrote, "aaaaand cue all the hateful vile DMs. stay classy … can’t believe this needs to be said. BUT you can be Indian and also support the country of your birth where you have been raised and more importantly the team your husband + father of your child plays in #nobrainer. take a chill pill and direct that outrage towards more important world issues."

Australia encountered a turbulent beginning to their pursuit of the 241-run target, losing three early wickets. Yet, the formidable partnership between Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne, amassing 192 runs for the fourth wicket, posed a formidable challenge for the Indian bowlers. This partnership ultimately ensured victory for Australia within 43 overs, with Head's century and Labuschagne's unbeaten 58 proving instrumental in securing the win.

India set a target of 241 runs for Australia after the Australians delivered an outstanding bowling performance. The hosts started their innings strongly, led by Rohit Sharma's impressive 47 off 31 balls, including four boundaries and three sixes. However, India faced a setback when they lost two consecutive wickets, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer, during the middle overs, disrupting the flow of their innings.
