Top 5 Batsmen With Most Runs In Single Test Match – Ft. Shubman Gill

Check below list of India’s highest run-scorer in a single Test match.

Shubman Gill delivered a sensational performance in the Birmingham Test against England, rewriting the record books with the bat.

With two masterful innings, he not only became India’s highest run-scorer in a single Test match but also climbed to second place globally in the all-time list of most runs scored in a single Test.

Shubman Gill Makes History

1. Graham Gooch (456 runs)

Former England skipper Graham Gooch holds the top spot. In the 1990 Lord’s Test against India, he scored a monumental 333 in the first innings and added 123 in the second, taking his aggregate to 456 runs — the highest ever in a Test match.

2. Shubman Gill (430 runs)

Shubman Gill was in sublime form during the Birmingham Test. He smashed 269 runs off 387 balls in the first innings and followed it up with a fluent 161 off 162 balls in the second. His match total of 430 runs made him the highest individual scorer for India in a single Test and second overall in world cricket.

3. Mark Taylor (426 runs)

Australia’s Mark Taylor occupies third place. In the 1998 Test against Pakistan in Peshawar, Taylor scored an unbeaten 334 in the first innings* and 92 in the second, finishing with a combined 426 runs.

4. Kumar Sangakkara (425 runs)

Legendary Sri Lankan batsman Kumar Sangakkara ranks fourth. Facing Bangladesh, he made 319 runs in the first innings and 105 in the second, totalling 425 runs in that match.

5. Brian Lara (400 runs)*

West Indies great Brian Lara rounds off the top five. In a 2004 Test against England, he produced an unbeaten 400 in the first innings*—still the highest individual score in Test history. Since the match ended in a draw and Lara didn’t bat again, his match total stood at 400 runs.
