Shikhar Dhawan's Bold Views On ICC Men's World Cup 2023 Semi-Finalists

Shikhar Dhawan highlighted the significance of the net run rate and suggested that it would be surprising if any of these teams failed to secure a spot in the last four.

The competition for a spot in the ICC Men's World Cup 2023 semi-finals is intensifying as teams put in their best efforts during the mid-stage of the tournament. The Men In Blue stand at the top of the points table and are the only team who have not experienced a defeat in the tournament. They have triumphed in all five of their matches, putting them in a strong position to secure a spot in the semi-finals.

Shikhar Dhawan's views on who will become top four teams

Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan recently shared his thoughts on the ICC World Cup 2023 semi-final contenders. Dhawan made a confident prediction regarding the teams likely to qualify for the semi-finals. He emphasised the strong performances of India, New Zealand, and South Africa in the tournament. However, he also highlighted the significance of the net run rate and suggested that it would be surprising if any of these teams failed to secure a spot in the last four.

Dhawan expressed his views on social media, saying, "Every World Cup match is reshaping the points table, with India, SA, and New Zealand securing their spots in the semis. Now, the spotlight is on the race for the 4th spot, demanding keen attention to net run rate.  Will be shocking if one of India-NZ-SA doesn’t qualify for SF. What do you guys think? Share your thoughts!," wrote Dhawan on X(formerly Twitter).

The ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 has witnessed several surprises and significant shifts in the points table in a short span. For instance, England, initially in the 6th position, dropped to the 9th spot after a loss to South Africa and then further down to the 10th position following Afghanistan's victory over Pakistan.

Australia Registeres Biggest ODI World Cup Win

Australia, initially at the 10th spot with two losses, made a remarkable comeback with three consecutive wins, elevating them to the 4th place with a positive net run rate. In their latest match, they achieved the largest victory in World Cup history by defeating The Netherlands by a margin of 309 runs. Glenn Maxwell played a sensational innings, scoring a century in just 40 balls against the Dutch, marking it as the fastest World Cup century, which included 8 sixes and 9 boundaries.

As of now, the top four positions in the points table are occupied by India, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia. India lead with an undefeated record, securing 10 points in 5 games. Both South Africa and New Zealand have four wins each in 5 matches, with South Africa taking the second position due to their superior net run rate. Australia have 3 wins in 5 matches and currently hold the 4th position.
