Shami clears Yo-Yo test, vouches to return in Test squad for England series

Mohammad Shami has finally cleared the notorious Yo-Yo test and will be back in the Indian Test squad for the important series against England. The pacer indicated through his tweet that he had achieved the minimum 16.1 cut-off mark in the yo-yo test required to be selected into the Indian team.

Mohammad Shami has finally cleared the notorious Yo-Yo test and will be back in the Indian Test squad for the important series against England. The pacer indicated through his tweet that he had achieved the minimum 16.1 cut-off mark in the yo-yo test required to be selected into the Indian team.

Stung by the embarrassment of being withdrawn from the team for the one-off Test against Afghanistan after miserably failing in the yo-yo test, Shami spent the last two weeks at the National Cricket Academy to improve on his fitness levels and gave the required tests along with other regulars of the Indian Test squad.

The BCCI, as a practice, will now be conducting the yo-yo test before selection of every Indian team and the selectors are expected to sit down later this week to name the 16-member squad for the five-match Test series.

Virat Kohli’s premier red-ball bowler has coincidentally given this good news on the same day when there are still doubts remaining over the complete recovery of Jasprit Bumrah before the Test series. Bumrah, who fractured his thumb was forced to miss the T20Is and ODI series and will now be fighting against time to join Shami, Umesh, Bhuvi and Ishant as part of the Indian pace battery.
