IND vs ENG 3rd Test | ‘Idea Is To Give My 100 Per Cent’: Ravindra Jadeja Opens Up On Frequent Injuries

Having recovered from a hamstring strain that kept him out of the Vizag Test, Ravindra Jadeja is set to make his return for the 3rd Test between India and England.

India star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja confirmed that he will be participating in the upcoming 3rd India vs England Test set to commence on February 15 (Thursday) in Rajkot. Having been sidelined due to a hamstring injury sustained in Hyderabad, Jadeja has completely recovered and is prepared to contribute as India strive for a 2-1 lead. His return is a significant relief for the Indian team, currently missing Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. Jadeja's presence not only bolsters the bowling attack but also provides a crucial boost to the batting lineup.

Jadeja acknowledges that his role on the field might be somewhat restricted. Recovering from a hamstring injury usually takes a considerable amount of time, making Jadeja's full fitness a remarkable feat. At the age of 35, Jadeja, renowned as one of the premier fielders globally, emphasises the importance of preserving his body while striving to deliver his optimal performance.

"Nothing has changed. We have the same excitement, and play with the same pride. The idea is to give my 100 percent but protect my body. Try not to dive unless absolutely necessary," Jadeja said, as quoted by Hindustan Times, ahead of the third IND vs ENG Test in Rajkot.

Rehabilitation At NCA and Overcoming Injury Challenges

During his absence following the second Test, Jadeja underwent rigorous rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). In the past two years, Jadeja has been plagued by frequent injuries, missing action five times due to various injuries including thumb, forearm, rib, knee, and most recently, hamstring issues.

Jadeja's absence from the T20 World Cup 2022 due to a knee injury, which required surgery, resulted in a significant seven-month hiatus from cricket. With the T20 World Cup 2024 approaching, the BCCI is cautious about managing his workload. Concerns arose regarding his fitness for the 3rd Test against England, especially after missing the 2nd IND vs ENG Test. Nevertheless, he has defied expectations and is set to participate in his 70th Test match at his home ground, Rajkot.

‘There Is So Much Cricket That's Happening’ Says Jadeja

Jadeja acknowledges the frustration that comes with recurring injuries in cricket, attributing it partly to the demanding schedule of the sport.

"It happens (the feeling of frustration creeping in) due to repeated injuries. But these days, there is so much cricket that's happening. That also plays on the mind. As far as my fielding is concerned, I cannot hide and field. I am always in the hotspot irrespective of the format. So that could also be a reason that the ball comes to me too often. The team expects me to grab a good catch, and affect a run out. I can work a little more smartly on my body and if I can do that I don't think there'll be any problems as such. Then again, there's no guarantee. I can go out tomorrow and get injured again. You never know," stated Jadeja.
