Mayank Agarwal reveals how Rahul Dravid shaped him as a batsman
Mayank is all set to begin a new innings of his career, he didn’t miss to give credit to his India A coach, Rahul Dravid
Months after smashing 1160 runs in eighth Ranji Trophy games last season, Mayank Agarwal found himself in the 16-member Indian squad for the upcoming Test series against West Indies. He remained in the fray forever for the last 15 months but was continuously overlooked by the selectors. And now, when he is all set to begin a new innings of his career, he didn’t miss to give credit to his India A coach, Rahul Dravid.
Mayank mentioned how the words of wisdom from the former Indian skipper helped to shape his form and temperament.
“He is a person we always go to whenever we need some help, you know, for any kind of advice. He kept saying to repeat the process, stick to scoring runs, what has to happen, will happen. I just followed his advice and it helped a lot,” Hindustan Times quoted Mayank as saying.
After a phenomenal domestic career, the 26-year-old Karnataka batsman is ready to make his international debut under Virat Kohli’s captaincy this month. Speaking about his batting strategy, a confident and happy Mayank said, “I will stick to things which are working for me, I will look to keep executing things which have given me success. I’ve always believed in working hard, something that I’ve always stuck to and then takes it day by day.”
Mayank’s selection is a delight for those fans who wanted him to play for India and kept on building support.
In the last Ranji season, he played at an average of 105.45. In his previous 13 innings for Karnataka, he got 6 fifty-plus scores after which he continued the red-hot form against South Africa A and Australia A. He went on to play a 220-run knock against the Proteas A team which sealed the deal for the young batsman.
