Kane Williamson taken to hospital for scans

A New Zealand spokesman described it was a "precautionary" measure. Kane Williamson injured the shoulder while fielding on Sunday and twice needed attention by medical staff when he batted.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson was taken to hospital for scans on Monday, midway through the second Test against Bangladesh, after he fell awkwardly on his shoulder trying to stop a ball at gully.

A New Zealand spokesman described it was a "precautionary" measure.

Williamson injured the shoulder while fielding on Sunday and twice needed attention by medical staff when he batted.

Despite the discomfort, Williamson made 74 before he was dismissed. The New Zealand captain, however, did not field in Bangladesh’s second innings when the hosts set out to snatch a win despite the first two day’s of the Test match getting washed out due to rain.

Fast bowler Tim Southee led New Zealand in Williamson’s absence.

At stumps on Day 4, Bangladesh were 80 for three, still 141 from making New Zealand bat again.

Earlier, Ross Taylor smashed a rollicking 200 from 212 balls before New Zealand declared at 432 for six.
