The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League is delivering yet another thrilling season. With more than half of the league stage now behind us, the playoff race is heating up. Some teams have almost secured their spot in the top four, while for others, the path to qualification is getting narrower with each match.

IPL 2025 Playoff Battle: Top 3 Contenders

Let's take a look at the three teams that are leading the playoff race and are on the verge of sealing their place in the final four:

Royal Challengers Bangalore: RCB has bounced back strongly this season. With 6 wins from 9 matches, they too have 12 points and are currently placed third, with a net run rate of +0.482. Interestingly, all three of their defeats have come at their home ground, Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Delhi Capitals: Delhi Capitals, captained by Axar Patel, are in top form in IPL 2025. They have won 6 out of 8 matches and are placed second in the standings with 12 points and a net run rate of +0.657. With consistent contributions from their core players, Delhi looks well on track to make it to the playoffs.

Gujarat Titans: Under captain Shubman Gill, Gujarat Titans have played 8 matches, winning 6 and losing only 2. With 12 points and a healthy net run rate of +1.104, Gujarat currently sits at the top of the points table. If they maintain this momentum, their playoff berth is all but confirmed.

Who will be the fourth team?

With Gujarat, Delhi, and Bangalore looking set to qualify, the big question now is - who will claim the fourth playoff spot?

As things stand, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants are all tied at 10 points each. These teams are very much in the race and will be fighting hard to break into the top-4.

Importantly, no team has been mathematically eliminated yet. This means the remaining fixtures are crucial, and a single win or loss could shake up the standings.
