The Indian Women's cricket team had a topsy-turvy calendar year of 2023 as they participated in the Women's T20I World Cup, Asian Women's T20I Cup, alongside some bilateral series and a triangular series. India ended up retaining their Asian Women's T20I Cup, but failed to win the Women's T20I World Cup after their semi-final defeat at the hands of eventual winners Australia Women, as their long quest for an international and intercontinental title still goes on. However, failure of adding more to their silverware cabinet did not stop India Women from creating history as they ended up victorious against Australia Women in the only Test played from December 21 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The 8-wicket victory was significant and historical as it marked the first occasion where India Women defeated Australia Women (irrespective of home, away, or neutral) in the red-ball format.
