IND vs WI 3rd T20I: Rohit Sharma 69 runs away from World Record

India vs West Indies 3rd T20I: Rohit Sharma's records are one of the main attractions of the inconsequential third T20I at Chennai

World records and Rohit Sharma go hand in hand. Seldom does a Rohit Sharma knock not break a world record and when he is in full flow like he was in the 2nd T20I at Lucknow, he breaks many. After becoming the first cricketer to score four T20I tons four nights ago, Rohit has a chance of becoming the highest run scorer in T20Is in the inconsequential final match against the West Indies in Chennai on Sunday.

  • The Indian captain for this series is only 69 runs away from going past New Zealand’s Martin Guptill, the current leading run scorer in T20Is. Rohit’s 111-run inning at Lucknow took him to the 2nd spot. Rohit with 2203 runs is also the highest run scorer by an Indian. He surpassed regular captain Virat Kohli (2102 runs) the other night.

  • If Rohit does get there, then this will be the first time that the leading run-scorers across three formats are all Indians — Sachin Tendulkar in Tests and ODIs; Rohit in T20Is.

  • Rohit, who hit seven sixes in the 2nd T20I, needs another 7 to climb to the top of the most sixes list. Rohit now has 96 sixes in T20Is, the record is jointly held by West Indies's Chris Gayle and New Zealand's Brendon McCullum.

  • Rohit is also 74 runs away from becoming the highest run-scorer vs Windies in T20Is. He is currently behind Babar Azam (403 runs), Alex Hales (384) and Tillakaratne Dilshan (346).

  • India have registered 3-0 wins in bilateral T20I series’ twice — vs AUS in 2016 and vs SL in 2017. This can be India’s 3 rd such white-wash win series in a 3-match bilateral contest.

  • Windies have been whitewashed twice in 3-T20I bilateral series’ and both by Pakistan. India can become the 2nd team to achieve this feat vs Windies.

  • Rohit will become the 1st Indian captain to register two whitewash win in 3-T20I bilateral series’. He will also become the 3rd captain to do so after Asghar Afghan (3 series wins) and Sarfraz Ahmed (5 series wins).
