Ind Vs SA, 3rd ODI: KL Rahul & Co Fined 40% Match Fee For Slow Over-Rate During Cape Town ODI

Ind Vs SA, 3rd ODI: Andy Pycroft, of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, imposed the sanction after KL Rahul’s side was ruled to be two overs short of the target after time.

New Delhi: After getting drubbed 0-3 in the ODI series against South Africa, problems for the Indian cricket team do not seem to end there. Now, under the captaincy of KL Rahul, team India has been fined 40 percent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against South Africa in the third ODI.

ICC Elite Panel Match Referee Andy Pycroft imposed the sanction after KL Rahul & Co were ruled to be two overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.

Earlier in this ODI series, hosts were fined 20% of the match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against India in the second ODI at Parl.

In the third ODI, India failed to chase a modest total of 287 set by South Africa in Cape Town on Sunday. Despite three players (Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, and Deepak Chahar) from the visitors' side hitting half-centuries, none were able to anchor the innings to finish. India were bowled out for 283 in 49.2 overs

India lost the three-match ODI series 0-3, with Proteas registering ODI whitewash and a 2-1 Test series win in the tour.

Meanwhile, after a successful tour for the hosts, South Africa's director of cricket and former captain Graeme Smith thanked India and BCCI for going ahead with the tour with Omicron scare being the underlying factor.

"Big thank you BCCI, Jay Shah, S Ganguly, and the Indian players and management for the faith you showed in SA cricket’s ability to pull off a safe and successful tour. Your commitment at an uncertain time has set the example that a lot can follow," said Smith in his tweet.

Cricket South Africa has been reeling from financial issues for a while now and the Covid-19 pandemic aggravated their problems. Earlier, England and Australia cancelled their tours of the country after a spike in positive covid-19 cases.
