Jasprit Bumrah's Embarrassing Entry Into Test Cricket's Most Unwanted List
Batters usually struggle to score against Jasprit Bumrah, which is why he maintains a consistently low economy rate in Tests.

The fourth day of the Manchester Test between India and England is underway, and the English side continues to dominate proceedings.
At the time of writing, England has taken a commanding lead of more than 275 runs. Indian bowlers have looked ineffective and have conceded runs heavily.
Jasprit Bumrah, who is generally known for his disciplined and economical bowling, has now recorded an unwanted milestone — for the first time in his Test career, he has given away over 100 runs in a single innings. This unexpected statistic is being seen as a major low point in Bumrah’s otherwise exceptional career.
Jasprit Bumrah’s Performance Disappoints
Batters usually struggle to score against Jasprit Bumrah, which is why he maintains a consistently low economy rate in Tests.
However, the Manchester Test has presented an unusual scenario. While Bumrah has taken wickets, he has also conceded runs at a rate rarely associated with him. Since his debut in 2018, Bumrah had never given away more than 100 runs in a single Test innings. That impressive streak ended here.
So far, Bumrah has bowled 33 overs in the match, claimed 2 wickets, and conceded 112 runs — marking the first time he has allowed a century of runs in red-ball cricket.
When Did Bumrah Concede Most Runs Before This?
Prior to this match, Bumrah’s most expensive bowling performance in a Test innings was against Australia during the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where he conceded 99 runs and took 4 wickets. That figure now stands surpassed. Bumrah, who was known for keeping the run flow in check, now finds that record broken in Manchester.
Second Time in Career Bumrah Bowls Over 30 Overs in an Innings
This is only the second occasion in Bumrah’s seven-year-long Test career where he has bowled more than 30 overs in a single innings. The first was during the Chennai Test against England in 2021, where he bowled 36 overs. Now, in the Manchester Test, he has already completed 33 overs — the second-highest workload of his Test career so far.
