Does India Lose More When Jasprit Bumrah Plays? Check Stats

Whether it’s Test cricket or any other format, Bumrah has often turned the match around with his bowling brilliance. But is there any truth in the claims surrounding Bumrah?

Does Team India lose more Test matches when Jasprit Bumrah is part of the playing XI? And does the Indian team win more frequently in his absence?

These are the kinds of questions and statistics that are currently doing the rounds on social media.

Surprisingly, people have started judging the performance and impact of the world’s number one Test bowler purely through win-loss records.

Whether it’s Test cricket or any other format, Bumrah has often turned the match around with his bowling brilliance. But is there any truth in the claims surrounding Bumrah? Let’s break it down with the help of some key stats.

Here's What the Numbers Really Say

When Jasprit Bumrah is part of the team, India has played 46 Test matches so far. Out of these, the team has won 20, lost 22, and 5 matches ended in draws.

Now if we look at the numbers without Bumrah, the Indian team has played 27 Test matches, out of which they have won 19, lost only 5, and 3 matches ended in draws.

Looking purely at these stats, many are questioning Bumrah’s presence in the team. But it’s important to note that numbers don’t always tell the full story.

Several other factors — such as conditions, opposition strength, pitch behaviour, and match situation — must be considered before drawing conclusions about Bumrah's impact on the team’s performance.

Will Jasprit Bumrah play 4th Test?

With India trailing 1-2 in the five-match Test series against England, the visitors must win both of the remaining matches to secure the series.

However, Jasprit Bumrah's availability remains a talking point ahead of the crucial Manchester Test. The ace pacer was rested for the Edgbaston Test as part of workload management, and there is still uncertainty over whether he will return for the fourth Test.

Though captain Shubman Gill has not confirmed Bumrah’s inclusion, a report by Sky Sports suggests that the pace spearhead is expected to feature in the Manchester Test.
