Ind Vs Eng 2nd Test: Can Virat Kohli Break Ricky Ponting’s World Record?

Skipper Kohli can break Australian legend Ricky Ponting’s record when he comes out to bat in the second Test match against England in Chennai. What is this record all about? Read below

India suffered an embarrassing loss to England in the first Test match in Chennai as they lost by 227 runs. Indian team would be itching to come out and improve their performance. Although, a silver lining was Virat Kohli’s fourth innings spark in batting and him coming back in form would make Ravi Shastri feel a lot better about the Indian batting line-up. But there’s yet another thing to look out for when India come out to bat in the second Test match. Virat Kohli would become the captain with most hundreds in world cricket if he scores a ton in the second Test. Currently, the record for most hundreds in held by Ricky Ponting.

If Virat scores a hundred, it will be his 42^nd ton as a captain and 71th over-all. Currently, Australia’s ex-batsman Ricky Ponting and Kohli are tied at 41 hundreds. It will be an amazing feat as Kohli would break this record with many years of his career left. With the pace at which Kohli is scoring hundreds, many believe he can also break Tendulkar’s record of scoring 100 centuries. Although, it's been more than a year that Kohli hasn't scored a century but his recent coming back to form in Chennai will interest a lot of Indian fans.

Meanwhile, Kohli would be in lime-light for the team selection also as Nadeem and Chahar are now out of the regular squad. It will be on Virat Kohli to pick his bowling line-up. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav are looking to break through in the eleven.

The second Test is set to begin from Saturday, 13 February at the Chepauk Stadium. This will be the first match that will be played with the public sitting in the stands after the Corona pandemic broke out.
