India received a major injury scare on Friday morning as young opening batsman Prithvi Shaw sustained an ankle injury. He twisted his ankle while trying to grab a catch on the boundary line during the 3rd day of the 4-match practice match against Cricket Australia XI.

Struggling in pain, Shaw immediately grabbed his lower left leg and was unable to put any weight on his left leg. He was soon carried out of the field by physio Patrick Farhat and later, taken to the hospital.

Moments later, the BCCI took to their official Twitter handle to update his condition. The tweet read, “The medical team is assessing Prithvi Shaw at the moment. He hurt his left ankle while attempting to take a catch at the boundary ropes. Shaw is being taken to the hospital for scans”.

The 19-year-old was considered a lock to open the batting at Adelaide Oval next week. Now, it all depends upon the medical reports that how bad his injury is. If he could recover in the next few days, then he might get benched for the first Test and India will be forced to try other opening option with KL Raul and Murali Vijay.

Prithvi batted superbly on Thursday against the Cricket Australia XI. Opening the innings, he top-scored for with an impressive 66 which included 11 boundaries.
