IND vs AUS, 3rd ODI: Dhawan Walks Off Field After Injuring Left Shoulder, Taken For X-Ray

Dhawan dived full length to save a powerfully struck Aaron Finch shot in the cover region before hurting his left shoulder in the fifth over.

Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan was taken off the field after he hurt his left shoulder in the third and final ODI between India and Australia being played at the MA Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday. Dhawan dived full length to save a powerfully struck Aaron Finch shot in the cover region before hurting his left shoulder in the fifth over. The sesaoned opener has been taken for an x-ray and a call on whether he will take any further part in the ongoing third ODI against Australia will be taken once he is assessed, a statement said. "Shikhar Dhawan has gone for an x-ray. A call on him being available for the game will be taken once he is back and assessed," a BCCI statement said. The 34-year-old was off the green turf at Rajkot during the Australian innings in the second ODI after a Pat Cummins bouncer hit him on the rib cage while batting. Dhawan was struck in the rib in the 10th over of the Indian innings. While he was seething in considerable pain and required medical attention, he decided to carry on batting, scoring a breezy 96 in India's total of 340 for six. The left handed opener has had his history of injuries against Australia in the past, and the most notable of them being fracturing his thumb after being hit by a rising delivery from Nathan Coulter-Nile in the ICC 2019 World Cup. The ongoing 3-match ODI series between India and Australia is leveled at 1-1.
