ICC Champions Trophy 2025: BIG Setback For India! Jasprit Bumrah Advised Bed Rest - Report

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to announce India squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025, despite ICC's deadline passing on January 12.

Indian cricket team's premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah is currently sidelined due to an ongoing back issue. According to a report in Times of India, Bumrah has been advised to stay on bed rest at home until the swelling in his back subsides. Once the swelling has reduced, further steps will be taken regarding his recovery.

"Bed rest doesn't sound good. I hope it’s not a disc bulge or a muscle swelling which is of a higher grade. The approach has to be similar with him – wrap him in cotton wool and preserve the talent like him," a source said.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to announce India squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025, despite ICC's deadline passing on January 12. Reports suggest that the Indian squad will now be revealed between January 18-19. Any changes to the squad can still be made until February 13.

It appears that Jasprit Bumrah is likely to miss the entire 2025 Champions Trophy due to his ongoing injury concerns.

Jasprit Bumrah's recovery on hold

Bumrah's long-standing back problems have resurfaced after his recent heroics in the Border-Gavaskar series against Australia.

Medical professionals have recommended complete rest for him until the swelling in his lower back heals. Depending on his recovery, Bumrah could visit the Center of Excellence in Bengaluru next week, though this will depend on how his back responds to the rest.

Bumrah's injury flare-up after Australia series

Jasprit Bumrah has been dealing with back issues for quite some time, even requiring surgery in the past. Despite his injury struggles, he delivered exceptional bowling during the Test series against Australia.

However, his physical condition took a toll, especially in the final Test in Sydney, when he had to leave the field and did not bowl in the second innings.

The increased workload and long spells seem to have aggravated his previous injury. Despite this, Bumrah was honored as the ICC Player of the Month for December due to his remarkable performances, though his participation in future tournaments, including ICC Champions Trophy 2025, remains uncertain.
