'If He'll Travel': Rohit Sharma Comes Up With Update On Jasprit Bumrah's Fitness

Being one of the best fast bowlers in the world, his comeback will greatly benefit the Indian squad.

In the forthcoming three-match T20I series against Ireland, Jasprit Bumrah is allegedly planning to make a comeback in international cricket. Rehab has been going on for Bumrah, who has been out since last year owing to a back issue.

Being one of the best fast bowlers in the world, his comeback will greatly benefit the Indian squad. He is an essential component of the Indian bowling attack, and his presence will have a significant impact on India's prospects of winning the ODI World Cup later this year.

Due to a back issue for which he also had surgery, Bumrah has been out for over a year. He is presently under rehabilitation at Bengaluru's National Cricket Academy (NCA). Bumrah's comeback has not been officially confirmed by the BCCI, but it is possible that he could be spotted travelling to Ireland for the T20Is, which will be contested in August.

Bumrah also hinted at making a return very soon by posting a video montage of him at the NCA. On Wednesday, Rohit Sharma updated the public on Bumrah's comeback. Even though Rohit was unable to promise Bumrah will return for the Ireland tour, he hoped the pacer would play enough matches to find his rhythm before the ODI World Cup, which will be staged in India in October and November of this year.

"The amount of experience he (Bumrah) brings is very important. Right now he's coming from a serious injury and I've no idea if he'll travel to Ireland because the team hasn't been announced yet.

“If he gets to play then it's good and we hope he plays before the World Cup. When a player returns from a serious injury, match fitness, match feeling are some key components, which are missing,” said Rohit at the press conference ahead of the 1st ODI.”

The team India Skipper also gave a big update on Bumrah’s recovery, stating that the management has been in constant touch with NCA and they are hopeful.

“We'll see what has been planned and everything depends on his recovery. We are in constant touch with the NCA and things look positive at the moment,” added Rohit

Prior to the Asia Cup last year, Bumrah's injury issues began, causing the seamer to withdraw from the competition. Then he made a short comeback to play against South Africa at home, but he was replaced midway through the series.

Bumrah's injury was so severe that it caused him to miss the T20 World Cup that was played in Australia last year. Later, he was included in the team for an ODI series against Sri Lanka in January of this year, but he later withdrew due to a back injury. He was therefore ruled out from the 2023 IPL, the four-match Test series against Australia at home, and the World Test Championship final.
