Here's How Bangladesh Can Still Secure World Cup 2023 Semi-Final Spot

Even after losing five games, Bangladesh still has a chance to secure the semifinal spot but their destiny depends on other teams.

Bangladesh started their World Cup 2023 campaign on high as they defeated Afghanistan by six wickets on October 7 in Dharamsala. Ever since then, things have become really difficult for them as they lost back-to-back five games and are on the edge of getting eliminated from the tournament. As per the stats, no team has lost more games than the Bangla Tigers in the ODI World Cup 2023. They are at the ninth spot in the points table with two points from six matches.

Even after losing five games, Bangladesh still has a chance to secure the semifinal spot but their destiny depends on other teams. They have to seal victory in their next three clashes against Pakistan (October 31), Sri Lanka (November 6), and Australia (November 11) with a massive margin to improve their net run rate. They also have to keep an eye on the results of other games as well.

The Bangla Tigers can manage to reach a maximum of 8 points which is enough to finish on the third or fourth spot on the points table. Teams like India and South Africa already scored 10 points each to their name, so Shakib Al Hasan's blokes can't match them even if they secure victories in all their matches.

New Zealand and Australia have got 8 points each in six games so far and if they win any of their remaining three games, Bangladesh will get eliminated. Teams like Sri Lanka and Afghanistan have got four points each and Bangladesh will be hoping to lose at least three of their remaining four matches. Then only, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan will get knocked out from the mega event with a maximum of six points and will fail to match Bangladesh's tally of eight points.

Pakistan and the  Netherlands have four points under their belts while  England has two points from five matches if these teams fail to secure a win in more than one game then they will also not be able to get eight points, and then the race will be open between the teams like Bangladesh, New Zealand, and Australia.
