Sam Curran rattles Indian top-order, Kohli & Co post 76/3 at lunch

By the time of lunch break, India have posted 76/3 at a loss of three wickets while Kohli (9*) and Rahane (8*) were at the crease.

Virat Kohli and Co hardly took two overs to warp up the English innings with the start of the second day’s days. However, when the Indian batters came to take the centre stage, and inexperience seamer turned their outing into the worst nightmare.

Minutes after the start of today’s game, Mohammed Shami dismissed Sam Curran and England were bundled up for 287. Moments later, Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay started the Indian innings and gave a balanced start to the team.

The duo had just added 50 runs for the first wicket when Sam Curran, who is playing only 2nd Test of his career, left Kohli and men in a state of shock. In the 14th over, a big inswinger caught Vijay halfway into his forward stride and in front of middle stump. The umpire though the ball might have travelled away from the leg stump, the review taken by the hosts told another story. The ball was bumping into the wickets and Vijay’s innings came to an end on 20 runs.

Next man in was KL Rahul who took off with a first-ball boundary which probably made everyone think that he is going to spend much time at the crease. But Curran proved them all wrong.

Right in the next delivery, Rahul was clean bowled. While trying to reach out to a full delivery, moving away from the off stump, Rahul attempted for a drive, but it took a thick inside edge and clattered back on. He had to return on a score of 4 and India were reduced to 54/2.

Now it was the skipper himself who joined opener Shikhar Dhawan at the crease and looked forward to balancing the sudden losses. But Curran had some other plans.

In his next over, he hunted down Dhawan and added three scalps in his name. Another away delivery from the batsman but Dhawan took the risk and paid the price. The ball took a thick edge of his bat and landed safely in the hands of David Malan, standing at the 2nd slip.

By the time of lunch break, India have posted 76/3 at a loss of three wickets while Kohli (9*) and Rahane (8*) were at the crease.

Brief Scores:

1st Test Day 2: ENG 1st innings 287 all-out; India 1st innings 76/3 (S Dhawan 26; S Curran 6-23-3) at Lunch
