Eden Gardens Wall Collapses Days Before World Cup 2023 Match, Picture Surfaces

The partial collapse of the Eden Gardens wall was the result of an earthmoving machine colliding with the wall during renovation work, as stated by Cricket Association of Bengal officials.

A significant reason of worry for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) unfolded as a portion of the exterior wall at Eden Gardens stadium collapsed on Thursday (October 26), just two days before the commencement of the first of five ICC Men's World Cup 2023 matches scheduled to be held in Kolkata.

The collapse was the result of an earthmoving machine colliding with the wall during renovation work, as stated by Cricket Association of Bengal officials. Efforts are currently underway to swiftly repair the damaged section, according to reports by TOI. The part of the wall that crumbled is located mighty close to one of the stadium's lighting towers and is situated between gates 3 and 4.

Eden Gardens, constructed in 1864, ranks as the third-largest cricket stadium globally and holds the distinction of being the oldest in India. With a seating capacity of 66,000, it serves as the home ground for the Kolkata Knight Riders and is owned and managed by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). Eden Gardens is often referred to as the "Mecca of Indian Cricket". The stadium has hosted major international tournaments such as the World Cup, Asia Cup, and World Twenty20. A record-breaking crowd of 110,564 spectators witnessed the 1996 India vs. Sri Lanka Cricket World Cup semifinal at this historic venue.

Eden Gardens Set To Host Five Matches In World Cup 2023

Coming to the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, Netherlands are set to face Bangladesh on Saturday, followed by a clash between Pakistan and Bangladesh on Tuesday, both at Eden Gardens. India will take on South Africa on November 5, and on November 11, England are scheduled to play against Pakistan. Additionally, a semi-final match is also planned at Eden Gardens on November 16.
