Debut nervousness: Siddharth Kaul reveals what he forgot before bowling his 1st over

It took him almost 10 years to get into the Indian team after wining the U-19 World Cup back in 2008 under Virat Kohli’s captaincy

Siddharth Kaul made his international debut for India on June 29 against Ireland at the Malahide cricket ground in Dublin.

The 28-year-old speedster started his career with an economic spell where he bowled 2 overs, leaked 4 runs and picked a wicket. The Irish players struggle throughout their batting against the Indian bowling attack. They got all-out on 70 and lost the game by 143 runs with 45 balls to spare.

After the match, Kaul had a small chit-chat session with star Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar. Speaking about his debut experience, Kaul said,

“It has been a surreal feeling to represent the country. When you get chance after years of hard work, you get excited, and so was I. There was nervousness in the beginning, but things settled down after bowling the first bowl.”

Kaul also revealed he was so nervous before bowling the first ball that he forgot his basic run-up. He said,

“I was extremely nervous when I was about to bowl the first delivery. I have a habit of taking a turn before the run-up. But I forgot to do so. Then suddenly I realise what am I missing. It’s totally a different feeling to represent India. I enjoyed a lot."

“Ravi bhai told me a day before the game that I’ll be playing. That thing kept on going in my mind. I was thinking what kind of bowling I would do, consulted with the seniors as well. And they suggested me to continue what I’ve been doing so far. I couldn’t sleep first but tried to keep my nerve," Kaul added.

It took him almost 10 years to get into the Indian team after wining the U-19 World Cup back in 2008 under Virat Kohli’s captaincy. He was handed his T20I cap by MS Dhoni.
