Ashes 2019: Warner Registers Unwanted Test Record With Yet Another Failure With Willow

With yet another dismal performance with the willow in the ongoing Ashes, Warner now holds the dubious record of becoming the first opener to be dismissed for single digit scores in a Test Series.

Australia opener David Warner who has been having a torrid time in the ongoing Ashes Series registered yet another low score, falling for a meagre 5 in the 5th and final Ashes Test at the Oval Cricket Ground on Friday. With yet another dismal performance with the willow in the ongoing Ashes, Warner now holds the dubious record of becoming the first opener to be dismissed for eight single digit scores in a Test Series. By his lofty standards in Test cricket, Warner has hit a new low with the bat and averages a meagre 9.33 with the bat in the ongoing Ashes series. His five at The Oval follows a pair of ducks at Old Trafford, another duck and a 61 at Headingley, a three and five at Lord's, and a two and an eight at Edgbaston. England seamer Stuart Broad has had a measure of Warner, getting the southpaw out six times. Australia head-coach Justin Langer had backed Warner to come good in the final Test. "Davey hasn't had a great series, there's no secrets about that. But he's also a world class player. I've said throughout the whole series if Davey has one good innings it will help us win the Ashes," he had said. "He probably hasn't been through this lean run before, so it's going to be a good test of his character and we know what a great player he is. "He's had a huge World Cup, he had a huge IPL albeit with a white ball. He's a world class player, he's a match winner. He's been brilliant around the group since he's been back."
