Sydney Thunder explosive batsman Aiden Blizzard announced retirement from cricket, calling time on his 12-year long career in Australia’s domestic circuit.

Blizzard played first-class cricket with South Australia and Tasmania but could never succeed as he did in the shorter format averaging a strike rate of 132.57 in 98 T20 games.

The 33-year old has 5 Big Bash titles to his name and was also a part of Mumbai Indians squad in 2011 and 2012. He also tasted success with Mumbai in the Champions Trophy.

Playing a long stint in the Big Bash League, Blizzard switched to Thunder from Hobart Hurricane in BBL04 and has finished as the 5th highest run-getter in the franchise with 390 runs in 21 matches.

"The franchise has come a long way, we'll always be judged on the field but the opportunity to change the culture and engage the fans is something I'm really proud to have been involved with," said Blizzard.

"It's going to be tough to say goodbye. The Thunder fans have been very understanding and patient, they're a unique bunch that have gone through some tough times, but are very loyal."

Blizzard helped the franchise to their maiden BBL title in the 6th season of the league in 2016. "I'd played a lot against Jacques Kallis in the IPL and Champions League but didn't really know him. We went on to have a great relationship and we still keep in touch now," said Blizzard.
