Pakistan batsman Ahmed Shehzad is likely to face a minimum three-month ban from cricket after reportedly failing a dope test during the Pakistan Cup in April this year.

Playing for Champions Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the 26-year-old displayed a phenomenal form as he ended tournament as the highest run-getter for his side, smashing 372 runs with 3 fifties and 1 hundred.

The Pakistan Cricket Board on Wednesday retweeted a post which confirms that “A player has reportedly tested positive for a prohibited substance. But under ICC rules PCB cannot name the player or charge sheet him until the chemical report is CONFIRMED by the Anti-Dope Agency of the government. We should have an answer in a day or two.”

Shehzad has highly inconsistent for the 2017 Champions trophy winners, playing his last Test match in August 2017. He ended up warming the bench during the entire West Indies series. However, Shehzad was included in the playing XI after an injury ruled Babar Azam out in the recently concluded T20 series against Ireland but he failed to impress with the bat, scoring just 38 in two T20 matches.
