Animesh Kujur Breaks National Record In Men's 100m Sprint

Competing in Final B, the 22-year-old clocked a stunning 10.18 seconds, becoming the first Indian to run under 10.20 seconds in the event.

Indian sprinter Animesh Kujur etched his name into the history books at the Dromia International Sprint and Relay Meeting 2025 by setting a new national record in the men’s 100m.

Competing in Final B, the 22-year-old clocked a stunning 10.18 seconds, becoming the first Indian to run under 10.20 seconds in the event.

Breaking Barriers in Greece

The race took place at the Municipal Stadium of Baglatzis in Vari, a suburb of Athens, during a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver Label meet.

Kujur’s blazing sprint shattered the previous national mark of 10.20 seconds, which was held by Gurindervir Singh. In the final, he outpaced Greece’s Sotirios Garagagnis (10.23 seconds) and Samueli Samuelson (10.28 seconds), who finished second and third respectively.

Holder of Two National Sprint Records

This isn’t Kujur’s only record-breaking feat. He also holds the national 200m record, having clocked 20.32 seconds at the Asian Athletics Championships in South Korea, surpassing his own earlier mark of 20.40 set during the Federation Cup.

With both the 100m and 200m records now under his belt, Animesh Kujur is emerging as one of India’s most promising sprint talents.

At just 22, Kujur is helping elevate India’s presence on the global athletics stage, continuing the country’s growing legacy in track events.
