Added responsibilities made me a better player: Kohli
New Delhi: The Indian cricket team, days ago, managed to dethrone Pakistan to reach the top of the ICC world Test rankings after clinching test series against New Zealand. However, Captain Virat Kohli wants the team to concentrate on winning every game and make it a process rather than playing for the No.1 spot. Talking about his love of learning Virat said, “I have learnt a lot as captain and it is an ongoing process. The day it stalls and you feel you have learnt everything is the day you start going down. Maybe at the end of my career, wherever I stand I can reflect back on it but till that time you keep learning.” India’s Test captain Virat Kohli has played a prominent role in making India a dominant force in test cricket. The skipper believes that captaincy has added extra responsibilities which in turn has made him a better cricketer. The right arm batsman credited MS Dhoni for his quick impact on the field as a leader. under Kohli's captaincy India has won nine out of 16 matches and lost only two with other five ending in draws. “I learnt a lot from Dhoni seeing the way he made decisions. They might have been right or wrong but to convince yourself to make one decision and go forward with it; I think that is the essence of being a captain.” Virat told BCCI.TV Virat Kohli took the test reigns in 2014 during India’s tour of Australia after MS Dhoni decided to hang his gloves. India had a disappointing end to the series, losing 2-0 to the hosts but it marked a beginning of new era under the leadership of Virat Kohli. The Delhi born cricketer believes that the current team has the potential to become world class for a long time and every player demonstrates abilities of a captain. “At the end of their careers most of the players in this team will be counted as the best of Indian cricketers along with the legends that we had. The ability that this team has, they will surely be an inspiration for a lot of players in the future. “People have started becoming captains individually in the team which is very important. They are able to understand their own game and motivate others, which makes my job easier. When you have people in the change room who are willing to speak about a loss and mistakes then it makes a lot of difference.” Said Virat Kohli.
