20 lakhs donation for Golf course for ex-servicemen: Amritsar MP
Amritsar (Punjab) [India], August 9 (ANI): Amritsar Member of Parliament (MP) Gurjeet Singh Aujla, who donated Rs 20 Lakhs to a golf club in Chandigarh from Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLAD) fund, said that the donation is for the ex-servicemen of the area because of whom this country is free today.
The Congress MP further criticized the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) for questioning his intentions and doing nothing for the people of the state.
"That Golf Course falls in my constituency and any MP can give at least 25 lakhs as a part of his MPLAD funds. Moreover, golf club consists of 80 percent ex-servicemen and it is because of them our country is free today," Gurjeet Aujla said.
"100 poor children have been given free membership and training here. I've spent Rs 20 lakh for the benefit of ex-servicemen and Badal Sahab is questioning my intention which means he doesn't like faujis (Armymen). He has done nothing for the people of Punjab," he added.
However, people from his constituency expressed displeasure in the regard.
"Aujla became MP half-an-year ago but never visited the area. These MPs make huge claims but do nothing for the welfare of the people. We want Aujla to be removed and another person should be elected as our representative," one of the local residents demanded.
The local further suggested the MP to rather spend the money on sports activities so that the youngsters don't get attracted to social evils like drug addiction. (ANI)
