Chaturmas 2025: There are four months in a year that are dedicated solely to penance, meditation, and serving God. During this period, all auspicious activities are completely stopped. These four months of devotion are known as Chaturmas.

When Is Chaturmas In 2025? 

According to the Hindu calendar, Chaturmas in 2025 will begin on 6th July. It lasts for four months and will end on 1st November 2025, on the day of Devutthani Ekadashi. The Chaturmas period is very special for religious scholars, saints, and yogis. During this time, they stay in one place to perform chanting, penance, and meditation.

What Is Chaturmas?

Chaturmas includes the months of Sawan, Bhadrapad, Ashwin, and Kartik. During these four months, Lord Vishnu remains in yoganidra, and the responsibility of running the universe is with Lord Shiva. Once Chaturmas begins, all auspicious and ceremonial activities like Mundan Sanskar, weddings, Tilak ceremonies, Yagyopavit, and 16 other rites are suspended.

  • During the entire four months of Chaturmas, all auspicious activities are strictly prohibited. However, travelling to Braj is allowed. It is believed that during Chaturmas, all the holy pilgrimage places on Earth reside in Braj.
  • Certain activities are also considered forbidden during Chaturmas, such as sleeping on a bed, consuming intoxicating substances, eating food given by others, lying, eating curd, meat, radish, brinjal, and leafy vegetables.
  • One should observe celibacy and self-discipline, donate food, clothes, lamps, and shelter to those in need, and try to maintain silence as much as possible.
