While Saturdays are generally considered auspicious for worshipping Shani Dev, the most significant day for his veneration is Jyestha Amavasya, the new moon day of the Jyestha month, which marks the birth anniversary of Shani Dev and is celebrated as Shani Jayanti.

This year, Shani Jayanti will be observed on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. Devotees observe fasts and offer prayers to please the deity. Here’s a look at the auspicious yogas forming on this day, the ritual procedure for the puja, and a list of essential items required for the worship.

Auspicious Yogas And Timings For Shani Jayanti 2025:

According to the experts, Shani Jayanti will coincide with Jyestha Amavasya, a day considered highly auspicious for bathing rituals, charitable acts, and ancestral worship.

Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga will be in effect from 5:25 AM to 5:32 AM, followed by the commencement of Sukarma Yoga.

Additionally, the Abhijeet Muhurat—ideal for performing important tasks—will be from 11:51 AM to 12:46 PM.

Shani Jayanti Puja Samagri:

To perform Shani Jayanti Puja, the following items are typically used:

  • Black sesame seeds (kala til)
  • Mustard oil
  • Black clothes
  • Black chickpeas
  • Peepal leaves
  • Steel or iron utensils
  • Incense and lamp
  • Gulab Jamun (sweet offering)
  • Black urad dal
  • Blue flowers
  • Shami leaves
  • Seasonal fruits
  • Shani Chalisa or the Shani Jayanti Katha book

Shani Jayanti Puja Vidhi:

On this sacred day, devotees can visit a nearby Shani temple to offer prayers. Begin by offering black sesame seeds, black urad dal, black chickpeas, Peepal leaves, and flowers to the deity. Then offer black cloth and Gulab Jamun as bhog (offering). Light a diya (lamp) with mustard oil and recite Shani Chalisa or Shani Janm Katha.

Donations To Make On Shani Jayanti:

After the puja, look at your reflection in a steel or iron vessel filled with mustard oil. Then donate the vessel along with the oil to a needy person. Other items suitable for donation on this day include:

  • Black or blue clothes
  • Mustard oil
  • Black sesame seeds
  • Steel utensils
  • Black urad dal
  • Black umbrella
  • Black footwear
