Mauni Amavasya 2025: Auspicious Timings For Holy Bath, Know The Correct Bathing Ritual At MahaKumbh

The second Amrit Snan of the Maha Kumbh will take place on January 29 during Mauni Amavasya.

Mauni Amavasya 2025: The sacred occasion of Mauni Amavasya is set to be celebrated on 29th January 2025 during the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. On this auspicious day, approximately 10 crore devotees are expected to participate in the Amrit Snan (holy bath).

Mauni Amavasya holds immense spiritual significance, especially at the Triveni Sangam (confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers). Taking a dip in the Ganga during the auspicious muhurta (time) on this day is believed to bring blessings from ancestors and deities while alleviating planetary doshas (afflictions).

Timings For Amrit Snan On Mauni Amavasya:

The second Amrit Snan of Maha Kumbh on Mauni Amavasya (29th January 2025) will have three auspicious timings:

  • Brahma Muhurta: 5:25 AM to 6:18 AM
  • Labh Kaal (Period of Benefit): 7:11 AM to 8:32 AM
  • Amrit Kaal (Period of Immortality): 8:32 AM to 9:53 AM

During Amrit Snan, the sacred tradition allows the 13 Akharas of saints and sages, including the Naga Sadhus, to bathe first. This age-old tradition is meticulously followed, with householders participating after the saints have completed their holy bath.

Proper Method Of Amrit Snan:

To fully benefit from the Amrit Snan on Mauni Amavasya, devotees should follow these steps:

  • First and Second Dip: Face east while taking the first two dips in the river to receive blessings from the Sun and deities.
  • Third Dip: Face north to gain the grace of Lord Shiva, the Saptarishis (seven sages), and spiritual gurus.
  • Fourth Dip: Face west, which honors Kinnaras, Yakshas, Garuda, and the 33 crore Hindu deities.
  • Fifth Dip: Face south, hold water in your hands, and pray for the peace of ancestral souls before releasing the water into the river. This act is believed to grant salvation to ancestors.

Why Is It Called Amrit Snan?

According to the experts, the unique planetary alignment during Maha Kumbh occurs once every 12 years, when Jupiter enters Taurus and the Sun and Moon align in Capricorn. This celestial combination transforms the waters of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati into Amrit (nectar). Bathing in these sacred rivers during this time is said to bestow the fruit of immortality and liberation (moksha).

Dates For Maha Kumbh 2025 Amrit Snan:

Following Mauni Amavasya, additional Amrit Snans or royal baths will take place on the following dates:

  • 3rd February 2025: Basant Panchami
  • 12th February 2025: Magh Purnima
  • 26th February 2025: Maha Shivaratri
