This is the second cyclone that is predicted to hit the state in a week. Last week, cyclone Nivar hit the coasts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry uprooting trees and power lines. Cyclone Nivar took the life of three people in Tamil Nadu and one in Andhra Pradesh.

IMD director general Mrutunjay Mohapatra reportedly said that Burevi is unlikely to be as intense as Nivar.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami urged the people, particularly those in the southern districts to stay indoors.

The Air Force and the Navy are ready for rescue and relief operations. Meanwhile hundreds of people have been shifted to to relief camps.

Several rescue teams have been alerted to be on toes to mend up the possible damage caused by the storm.

The IMD has issued a red alert for south Tamil Nadu and south Kerala for December 3. The weather department has also given rainfall warning for south-north TN, Puducherry, Karaikal, south-north Kerala, Mahe, south coastal Andhra and Lakshadweep for Dec 4.

In view of the upcoming cyclonic storm, southern states have taken several precautionary measures to minimise the possible damage that could be caused by the weather system.
