PM Modi Meets Spanish Counterpart Pedro Sanchez In Rome, Leaders Hold ‘Fruitful Talks’ On Ways To Deepen Ties
PM Modi is in Rome to attend the G20 summit. He has held several bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit.
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his Spanish counterpart Pedro Sanchez on Sunday on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rome.
As per a statement by the Ministry of External Affairs, the two leaders welcomed the growing bilateral trade and investment linkages including the recent signing of the contract to procure 56 C295 aircrafts from Airbus Spain, 40 of which will be ‘Made in India’ in collaboration with Tata Advanced Systems.

PM Modi and Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez agreed to further expand bilateral cooperation in new areas like e-mobility, clean tech, advanced materials and deep sea exploration.
“PM Modi invited Spain to invest in various sectors including Green Hydrogen, infrastructure and defence manufacturing and further take advantage of India’s National Infrastructure Pipeline, Asset Monetization Plan and the Gati Shakti Plan”: the MEA informed in its official statement.
The two leaders discussed India-EU relations as well as cooperation on climate action and priorities at the upcoming 26th Conference of Parties (COP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) in Glasgow.

They also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest including Afghanistan and the Indo-Pacific.
The MEA mentioned that PM Modi is looking forward to welcoming PM Sanchez to India next year.

On Saturday, he met French President Emmanuel Macron and Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
The G20 summit kicked off on Saturday and the second day of the G20 started with a walk of the Heads of Delegation in one of the symbolic places of the historic downtown: Trevi Fountain.
Thereafter, PM Modi attended the session on Climate Change and Environment on Sunday.
Afterwards, the G20 Heads of Delegation gathered at the Convention Center La Nuvola for a side event and two working sessions.
Later today, Prime Minister Modi is expected to hold a meeting with outgoing German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
