Bengal Elections 2021: Goghat Booth President Dies During Violence In Hooghly; TMC Accuses Attack By BJP

The deceased has been identified as Sunil Roy, the TMC booth president who died in violence at Hooghly's Goghat earlier today.

A Trinamool Congress worker died after exercising his franchise in Hooghly as voting for crucial third phase of Bengal Assembly elections is underway.

As per the early inputs, the deceased has been identified as Sunil Roy, the TMC booth president who died in violence at Hooghly's Goghat earlier today. The TMC worker was coming back home after casting his vote when violent clashes broke out mid-way and Roy was allegedly pushed.

The state-ruling party TMC has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of attacking Roy. The saffron party has however denied all allegations.

In another incident, TMC candidate Sujata Mondal was also attacked by some unidentified miscreats at Arandi-I booth no.263 Mahallapara. TMC's Derek O'Brien while speaking to media alleged that the 'goons of BJP attacked Mondal. Her personal security officer has suffered injuries on head & is in a critical state. CRPF personnel were silent spectators." 

Meanwhile, West Bengal is up for third leg of voting today. Polling has already been done for 60 seats in the first two phases conducted on March 27 and April 1. In this phase of elections, the 31 seats are spread over three districts - eight in Hooghly, seven in Howrah and 16 in South 24 Parganas.

As many as 205 candidates are in the fray with Diamond Harbour having the maximum number of candidates - 11. The major political parties, Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party are contesting all 31 assembly seats.
