Rajasthan Panchayat Election Results 2020: Counting Underway In 21 Districts

The counting of votes for the panchayat samiti and zila parishad members' elections in Rajasthan is underway. Early trends show Congress in the lead with BJP following closely.

New Delhi: The counting of votes for panchayat samiti and zila parishad members' elections is underway in Rajasthan. The election was held in four phases on November 23, 27, December 1 and 5. A report by PTI says that counting began at 21 district headquarters. ALSO READ| 'CM Arvind Kejriwal Placed Under House Arrest,' Alleges Aam Aadmi Party; Cops Deny Claim The polling to elect a total of 636 zila parishad members and 4371 panchayat samiti members were held in four phases in 21 districts of Ajmer, Banswara, Barmer, Bhilwara, Bikaner, Bundi, Chittorgarh, Churu, Dungarpur, Hanumangarh, Jaisalmer, Jalore, Jhalawar, Jhunjhunu, Nagaur, Pali, Pratapgarh, Rajsamand, Sikar, Tonk and Udaipur. The fates of 1778 candidates for zila parishad elections and 12663 candidates for panchayat samiti elections will be decided today. Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the counting. In early trends Congress is leading in Panchayat Samiti Elections and in zila parishad elections with BJP following closely in the second spot. Today, ther farmers' have called for a nationwide strike and it has garnered mixed reaction in Rajasthan where mandis remained closed but several shops were open as usual. The bandh is being supported by the ruling Congress party led by Ashok Gehlot in the state. "The impact is clearly visible in towns and villages. All the mandis in the state are closed and the bandh is going on peacefully," Kisan Mahapanchayat president Rampal Jat said in a report by PTI.
