Mamata Banerjee To Take Oath As West Bengal CM For 3rd-Time Tomorrow

On Monday, the event would be a low-key affair amid grim Covid situation in the country.

Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee will take oath as cheif minister of West Bengal for third time at 10:45 PM on Wednesday at Raj Bhavan. On Monday, the event would be a low-key affair amid grim Covid situation in the country.

“The CM resigned and it has been accepted. She had been requested to continue till alternative arrangements are made,” governor Jagdeep Dhankar said after the TMC leader met him and handed over list of newly-elected Trinamool MLAs.

Trinamool Congress defeated BJP in the West Bengal assembly election 2021, pocketing 213 of the 292 assembly seats, to attain a landslide victory, however, the election result in Nandigram stunned everyone after protege-turned-BJP adversary Suvendu Adhikari defeated Mamata by a slim margin of 1,956 votes.

Adhikari bagged 1,10,764 votes to defeat Mamata in the only constituency she contested, still she is set to take oath as Bengal CM for the third consecutive term.

Mamata halleged manipulations in the counting votes and said that she will approach the court over alleged 'mischief' in the Nandigram seat where she lost elections to Suvendu Adhikari.

Though the BJP failed in its effort to dislodge Banerjee from power, it's for the first time that it will be the main opposition party in the state assembly, rising from a measly three seats in 2016 to at least 76 now.
