Kerala: IMD Issues Orange And Yellow Alert In 9 Districts

According to IMD, an orange alert is issued when it predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall

Chennai: Days after torrential rains which triggered floods in Kerala killing at least 42 people, the rains make landfall again in the state as IMD has issued an orange alert for five districts and a yellow alert for four districts for the next four days.

According to IMD, an orange alert is issued when the weather department predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall which could vary from 65.5 mm to 204.4 mm rainfall while a yellow alert is given when there is a chance of moderate rainfall which varies from 15.6 mm to 64.4 mm.

Besides Kerala, heavy rains predicted the coastal belt of Tamil Nadu as IMD issued an orange alert in parts of the state. On Saturday, Parangipettai and Thootukudi recorded the highest rainfall at a whopping 168 mm.

As many as 42 people died and 217 houses washed away due to landslides and flash floods that hit Kerala between October 12-October 20, said CM Pinarayi Vijayan in a press conference a few days ago. 304 rehabilitation camps were opened after the severe rainfall battered parts of the state.
