BJP MLAs showed pictures of violence which broke out in West Bengal post the Assembly elections and even chanted Jai Shri Ram slogans.

Kolkata: The first day of West Bengal Assembly session witnessed massive uproar forcing Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar to cut short his inaugural speech to the newly constituted state assembly. According to reports, several MLAs of the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) created ruckus in the newly constituted assembly over post-poll violence in the state.

BJP MLAs showed pictures of violence which broke out in West Bengal post the Assembly elections and even chanted Jai Shri Ram slogans which resulted in Dhankhar tabling his speech and leaving the house.

Dhankhar, who arrived in the Assembly earlier in the day to deliver the inaugural address, could barely speak for 3-4 minutes as BJP MLAs, carrying posters and pictures of alleged victims of post-poll violence came to well to stage protest.

According to news agency PTI, Dhankar was seen escorted by Speaker Biman Banerjee and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as he left the assembly premises.

Meanwhile, TMC turncoat and Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, while speaking to reporters, said that the BJP legislators were forced to stage protest as there was no mention of post-poll violence in the speech copy given by the House to MLAs.

"The incidents of post-poll violence in Bengal have been barbaric. BJP workers have been murdered. More than 300 women were molested and few even raped. This isn't mentioned in the Governor's address," Adhikari said.
