Rainfall Expected For Next 7 Days Over Northwest, Central India: IMD
As per the IMD, the first western disturbance was likely to occur between January 3 and January 6 while the second was expected to take place between January 7 and January 9.
New Delhi: Two fresh and active western disturbances are very likely to bring rainfall in the northwest and central parts of India over the next week. The Indian Meteorological Department on Sunday said that the effect of the western disturbance was likely to be observed from January 3.
As per the IMD, the first western disturbance was likely to occur between January 3 and January 6 while the second was expected to take place between January 7 and January 9.
The first western disturbance and its induced cyclonic circulation are expected to affect northwest India from January 3 with fairly widespread to widespread snowfall and rainfall over Jammu and Kashmir between January 3 and January 7 with predictions of isolated heavy snowfall, whereas over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on January 5. Isolated hailstorms are also expected over Jammu and Kashmir on January 4 and 5 and in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on January 5.
The western disturbance is likely to cause fairly widespread rainfall over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, north Rajasthan, and west Uttar Pradesh between January 5 and January 7, while light isolated rainfall over Madhya Pradesh is expected on January 5. Isolated Thunderstorms activity is likely over Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh & Rajasthan, accompanied by hailstorms over Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan on January 5, 2022.

The second western disturbance is likely to induce increased rainfall and snowfall activities over the western Himalayan region with predictions of isolated heavy rainfall on January 8 and scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall/thunderstorm over plains of northwest and adjoining central India between January 7 and January 9. Rajasthan and adjoining areas of west Madhya Pradesh are likely to experience isolated heavy rain and hailstorm on January 8 while Punjab, Haryana, UP, and MP on January 9, according to the IMD website.
No significant change in minimum temperatures is very likely over Northwest India during the next 24 hours and gradual rise by 3-5°C for subsequent 3-4 days. Hence, the minimum Temperatures will be above normal to appreciably above normal from 04th January, the website read.
