'Trump Ordered, Modi Remained Silent': Rahul Gandhi's Dig At PM Over US Tariffs On India

Rahul Gandhi warned of an upcoming economic storm. He reiterated his demand for a caste census and said that his party will demolish the wall restricting reservation to 50%.

Targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that he hugged US President Donald Trump during the first visit, but this time there is no photo as such. Speaking at AICC meeting in Ahmedabad, Gandhi said Trump ordered that this time there will be new tariffs but not hugs, but Modi said nothing, he further added. The Congress leader also said that an economic storm is coming, and it will affect millions.

“Did you see the photograph of PM Modi hugging Trump? This time he ordered Modi ji that ‘we will not hug but will impose new tariffs’. PM Modi did not say a word. To divert attention from this they ran a drama in Parliament for two days,” he said, adding, “Where is the PM hiding?”.

Referring to PM Modi's recent meeting with Bangladesh's Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus, Gandhi said the Bangladeshi leader gives adverse remarks and he is sitting with him. “Where is the 56-inch chest,” Gandhi asked in a swipe at Modi.

Reiterating his stand for caste census in the country, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi pushed for it again and said that his party showed the way in Telangana. Speaking at the AICC session, Gandhi said that we will demolish the wall that is restricting reservation to 50 percent for SC, ST, and OBC. He called the constitution as opposed to constitution and also against the religious freedom.

"What Telangana has done, we are going to do across the country. Gandhi alleged that the RSS' ideology is against the Constitution and they want to control all institutions in the country. He told party leaders that the fight is for the Constitution and it is not easy. They have everything at their disposal but we have truth and the love of the people on our side," Gandhi said.

The Congress leader further said that the new Waqf Act is an attack on the fteeom of religion and the Constitution. The Waqf (Amendment) Act came into force from April 8 after being passed by Parliament last week. President Droupadi Murmu gave her assent to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
