Army Pays Tributes To Subedar Major Pawan Kumar Killed In Poonch Shelling Amid Operation Sindoor

Subedar Major Pawan Kumar, martyred in Operation Sindoor due to Pakistani shelling in Poonch, was cremated with full state honors in Himachal Pradesh.

General Officer Commanding (GoC) White Knight Corps Lieutenant General P K Mishra and other senior officers on Friday paid tribute to Subedar Major Pawan Kumar, who was martyred during Operation Sindoor, and expressed solidarity with his grieving family.

Subedar Major Kumar was killed in shelling by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district. He was cremated with full state honours at his native village in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday.

“#GOC and all ranks of #WhiteKnightCorps salute the unwavering courage of #Braveheart Subedar Major Pawan Kumar, who made the supreme sacrifice during #OpSindoor. His valour and dedication to duty will always be remembered. We continue to stand with the bereaved family in their hour of grief,” the Corps posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Subedar Major Pawan Kumar Cremated In Himachal With State Honours

Emotional scenes unfolded as Kumar’s son lit the funeral pyre, while family members, friends, and a large number of mourners bid him a tearful farewell, chanting slogans of “Subedar Major Pawan Kumar Amar Rahe” (Long live Subedar Major Pawan Kumar) and “Pakistan Murdabad” (Down with Pakistan).

His body, draped in the tricolour, was brought to Shahpur from Jammu around 1 pm on Sunday. Cries of mourning echoed through the air as his family members received him.

Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania paid homage on behalf of the state government. Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar, Deputy Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa, and Superintendent of Police Shalini Agnihotri also offered floral tributes. Former Assembly Speaker Vipin Parmar, former minister Sarveen Chaudhary, and former MLA Arun Kumar were present to pay their respects.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, in a statement issued on Sunday, said, “The nation will forever remain indebted to his courage. The state government stands firmly with his family in this hour of grief.”

Subedar Major Pawan Kumar hailed from Ward Number 4 in Shahpur and served with the 25 Punjab Regiment. His father, Garaj Singh, is a retired Havildar of the Indian Army. He is survived by his parents, wife, son, and daughter.
