Provisions In Agri Laws 'Optional', Nothing 'Compulsory': PM Modi's Outreach To Farmers From Lok Sabha

PM Modi Speech: Prime Minister was replying to the Motion of Thanks to the President's address in Lok Sabha on Wednesday when he highlighted that on implementation of the new agricultural laws, no mandis - markets for farm produce - was shut neither the Minimum Support Price (MSP) was removed.

PM Modi Speech: In what looks like a turn of events, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Lok Sabha mentioned that all the provisions in the newly formed Agriculture Laws are "not compulsory" and it is "optional" for one to follow the new laws.

Prime Minister was replying to the Motion of Thanks to the President's address in Lok Sabha on Wednesday when he highlighted that on implementation of the new agricultural laws, no mandis - markets for farm produce - was shut neither the Minimum Support Price (MSP) was removed.

"No mandis were shut after the implementation of these laws, MSP did not end anywhere in the nation. Purchase on MSP increased after the laws were formed. You cannot deny the truth," PM Modi said in his speech in the Lower House.

"I want to ask if any farmer has faced any change after the laws were introduced. The only thing is an optional provision, nothing compulsory. These new laws have not been imposed on anyone, it is optional," PM Modi said during his speech.

On the point that why was their a need for new farm laws, Prime Minister argued that it was done for the betterment of the nation and development of farmers.

"Argument has come - why did you provide when we (farmers) didn't ask. Accepting or refusing depends on you. It's not compulsory. Nobody had demanded law against dowry, still, it was made for the nation's progress. Laws were made against Triple Talaq and Child Marriage for progress," PM mentioned in his speech.

"Our government respects the farmers who are voicing their views on the farm bills. This is the reason senior Ministers of the government are constantly talking to them," PM said during his speech in Lok Sabha reiterating his stance on talks with farmers.

Narendra Modi also targetted the opposition as he said if there are changes to be made in the Agri laws then it can be discussed and the government has no issues in bringing the change. "We offered to discuss clause by clause three farm laws; If there are any shortcomings, there is no problem in making changes," PM Modi said in his speech.

As PM Modi explained the government's stand on the three farm laws in the Lok Sabha it witnessed disruptions from the Congress party. Prime Minister said those disrupting the House proceedings are doing so as per a strategy as they are unable to digest that people can see their truth.

"Through their games, the trust of the people can never be won," PM Modi said. Later on the Congress MPs, including Rahul Gandhi, walked out of Lok Sabha as a sign of protest.
