Now, will West Bengal's 'Islampur' be called 'Iswarpur'? RSS, VHP buildings hint change
VHP leaders said that they know the place as 'Iswarpur', not 'Islampur'.
New Delhi: As UP government goes on a spree of changing names of places, a related modification in TMC-ruled West Bengal has created a hubbub. The city of Islampur in north Dinajpur district witnessed an overnight change in its name at many places. On various boards of schools, hospitals and Islampur was changed to Iswarpur, in an overnight modification.
The act apparently carried out by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad reflected in the school board of Rashtriya Sewak Sangh conducted school of Saraswati Shishu Mandir and Vidya Mandir. The banner of the school showed Iswarpur in the name of place.
When asked, the principal of the school denied any knowledge about the change and said he had no idea who changed the name.
The school is a 540-student school that runs upto class 8. The school’s address in the government communication shows Islampur, but the school’s pick-up van shows it as Iswarpur.
Even at the office of VHP, the place is shown as Iswarpur district.
The local VHP leaders said they know the area as Iswarpur not Islampur . The place’s original name was Iswarpur , Islampur is the name imposed by the Muslim rulers in past, they said.
The BJP government in Uttar Pradesh has recently changed names of a number of places. It changed Allahabad to Prayagraj, Faizabad to AYodhya, Mughal Sarai station to Deen Dayal Upadhyay station and talks are also going on to change the name of Agra.
