Amid Back-To-Back Meetings, Apparent Factionalism, Here's What BJP's Report Says On Party's Poor Show In UP

The BJP is keen on having an OBC leader as its state chief as it prepares to bounce back from the poll setback and prepare for the upcoming assembly elections.

Amid the marathon meetings of the BJP over the party's poor performance in Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, the party's UP chief Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and shared the review report with the PM.

The party's review report held the UP administration responsible for the poll defeat in Uttar Pradesh, sources told ABP News. It said that the party workers were neglected by the working style of the UP administration and they therefore were not active in the Lok Sabha elections. 

It further alleged that the administration removed the names of the BJP voters from the voters' list and did not provide any help. Earlier today, Bhupendra Chaudhary and Keshav Prasad Maurya also BJP national president JP Nadda.  

As per reports, changes are expected both in the BJP organisation and the UP cabinet. The party is likely to get a new state chief as Bhupendra Chaudhary has offered to resign after meetings with Modi and Nadda, News18 reported. A cabinet reshuffle is also expected in Uttar Pradesh.

Meanwhile, PM Modi is likely to visit BJP headquarters at 6 pm on Thursday, where he will address and meet party workers at the office.

Maurya's Cryptic Tweet

The back-to-back meetings come amid speculations of differences between Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Keshav Prasad Maurya, one of the deputy CMs.  

Several BJP leaders from the state, including those who lost in the Lok Sabha polls, have been critical of the chief minister's working style and cited it as one of the reasons for their loss, according to NDTV.

However, Adityanath is seen by his supporters as a popular chief minister who has aggressively pursued the party's Hindutva agenda and maintained a firm grip on law and order.

Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya, in a cryptic remark on X on Wednesday, said the party is bigger than the government. "The organisation is bigger than the government, the pain of the workers is my pain. No one is bigger than the organisation, the workers are the pride," the post shared by the office of the deputy CM on X said.

The post quoted a part of Maurya's address during the BJP's working committee meeting in Lucknow on Sunday. The post also had a picture of the meeting in the backdrop.

The Deputy CM also urged all the ministers, MLAs, and public representatives to respect party workers. 

A report in NDTV also said that the party is planning for an organisational rejig in the state. The BJP is keen on having an OBC leader as its state chief as it prepares to bounce back from the poll setback and prepare for the upcoming assembly elections, the report added. 

The INDIA alliance of the SP and the Congress had won 43 of the state's 80 Lok Sabha seats, while the BJP-led NDA won 36. The NDA had won 64 seats in 2019. With by-elections due to 10 assembly seats in the state, political watchers will be keenly awaiting the outcome.
