Covid-19: Mumbai Reports Nearly 2,000 Cases, Highest Since January 23
Mumbai Covid Update: The positivity rate, or cases detected per 100 tests, also went above the 10 per cent mark. Here are the latest udevelopments.
Mumbai recorded the highest daily rise in Covid-19 cases since January 23, logging 1,956 new infections on Friday, according to a health department bulletin. However, there were no new deaths due to Covid-19. On Thursday, Mumbai had reported 1,702 new cases.
With the fresh cases, the tally in Mumbai rose to 10,77,199. The death toll stood at 19,570. The number of active cases has risen to 9,191, the bulletin said.
The positivity rate, or cases detected per 100 tests, also went above the 10 per cent mark, and stood at 12.74 per cent. It was 9.64 per cent on Thursday.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation data said 763 people recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. The number of recovered patients has now climbed to 10, 48,438.
Mumbai, in the first ten days of June, reported almost double the number of Covid-19 cases it had reported in entire month of May, PTI reported. Between June 1 to 10, the metropolis reported 11,397 infections. In May, Mumbai saw only 5,979 cases.
The Maximum city also reported four deaths in the first 10 days of June against three deaths in entire May. Of the 24,943 hospital beds for Covid-19 patients in the city, only 369 beds are occupied, the BMC said.
Maharashtra Covid-19 Cases, Deaths
On the other hand, Maharashtra overall recorded 3,081 new coronavirus infections, highest in nearly four months. The state reported zero Covid-related deaths. On Thursday, the state had recorded 2,813 new cases and one death. The number of active cases in Maharashtra stands at 13,329.
