Massive Traffic Snarl In Hyderabad After Heavy Rainfall Causes Waterlogging — WATCH

Traffic was backed up for more than two hours near Ikea Junction, HiTec City, and the Cable Stayed Bridge across Durgam Cheruvu.

Heavy rain in two brief periods left Hyderabad hobbling and gasping for air on Monday evening, when roads became flooded and motorists were trapped in gridlocks around the city during the evening peak hours. Traffic was backed up for more than two hours near Ikea Junction, HiTec City, and the Cable Stayed Bridge across Durgam Cheruvu.

Following a rather bright and warm day, there was heavy thunder activity in the evening about 5.30 p.m. leading to a brief shower. Though the downpour was brief, the intensity of the rain was such that visibility decreased and vehicles drove at a snail's pace as they navigated the saturated roadways.

While traffic in Hitech City and surrounding areas quickly worsened, flood water captured roads even in central Hyderabad — at Nampally, Khairatabad, Banjara Hills, near Secretariat, in front of Raj Bhavan, on the Somajiguda stretch, and right near the Chief Minister's Camp Office — all of which are chronic water logging locations.

"Due to VIP movement, heavy Rains, heavy flow of traffic and also peak hours, movement of vehicles is slow from City Centre, Taj Krishna, GVK One, NFCL towards Panjagutta X Roads," Hyderabad Traffic Police tweeted.

According to Telangana Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, there has been no loss of life or property in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) as a result of the five days of nonstop rain.

According to a GHMC announcement, the Minister and officials visited the city's Hussain Sagar lake, which was overflowing due to severe rain. According to Yadav, 428 monsoon emergency teams have been working around the clock to ensure that people are not inconvenienced.

According to the the release, individuals had no issues since emergency teams, police, and Disaster Response Force (DRF) workers worked together.

Vijaya Lakshmi R Gadwal, Mayor of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, visited the control room and inquired about the complaints received from impacted individuals. She directed GHMC Commissioner Ronald Rose to take particular efforts for sanitary upkeep in light of the city's rains.

Meanwhile, torrential rains in Telangana subsided on Saturday. However, highways were damaged, and agricultural fields and low-lying regions in certain sections of the state were still inundated as a result of the deluge.
